After five wonderful years, the 2016 BEAT Festival was our final event. I have moved to the west coast, have had a beautiful daughter, and am in a very different place than I was a year ago, much less five (when the festival began). My wife and I decided this year after moving west that we would see and enjoy this year’s festival all the way through, including returning to Brooklyn for the month of September. This experience led me to realize that producing the festival is no longer something I can realistically do given that the event focuses completely on Brooklyn and that I no longer live there.
Having produced a full roster of quality performances in partnership with three talented curators across four neighborhoods this year, we end on a high note, presenting powerful and important work, serving many artists, engaging new community members, and delighting many theater goers.
There have been so many individuals responsible for the success of the BEAT Festival–from our sponsors to our many, varied and wonderful partners and artists. And, of course, our loyal and enthusiastic audience. I am most grateful to you for supporting our programs and for coming to our performances over the years. It has been a life-changing experience for me.
I wish you the very best.
With gratitude –
